Ellen DeGeneres Preaches Acceptance and Empowers at the Teen Choice Awards

Larger than life comedian and overall amazing human being – Ellen DeGeneres showed the world again that when someone chooses to use their fame for good, the results are amazing.

Ellen DeGeneres accepted her Teen Choice Award for Choice Comedian with an empowering speech to the young people in the audience.

“It feels good to be chosen, but there was a time in my life that I was not chosen. I was the opposite of chosen because I was different. And I think I want to make sure that everyone knows that what makes you different right now makes you stand out later in life. So you should be proud of being different.”

The always funny Ellen DeGeneres, was not m in 1997 when she faced some adversity after she came out. Her ABC series, Ellen, was axed in 1998. However, she now hosts one of the most widely-watched talk shows and has become a true icon.

The most important thing I wanna say is just really embrace who you are because being unique is very, very important and fitting in is not all what matters. It’s being unique and being who you are.”

The comedienne also used her acceptance speech to praise her love for wife Portia de Rossi – yesterday was their seventh wedding anniversary. Ellen said:

What an amazing day this is. This is my seven-year wedding anniversary, so happy anniversary.”

She then smiled and looked over at her wife, then said: “It’s yours, too.”
