Caitlyn made national headlines when she was found, and if you’re an animal lover there’s no doubt her story will bring you to tears. Over the years, we’ve unfortunately become accustomed to hearing haunting stories of incidents of animal abuse. However, this beautiful little pup survived what can only be described as a living hell.
Last summer Caitlyn, a 15 month-old Staffordshire bull terrier mix was discovered in Charleston, South Carolina with her muzzled taped tightly shut with electrical tape.
Her former owners reportedly said they had sold her for $10, however a few days later, Caitlyn showed up in their yard with black electrical tape wound so tight around her muzzle that her tongue was caught between her teeth, according to officials. They said she may have been left in that condition for up to 48 hours.
When doctors removed the tape, her muzzle reportedly swelled to around double its normal size and due to her horrific wounds, Caitlyn lost a part of her tongue.
Her surgeries and her recovery was covered by The Charleston Animal Society’s Toby Fund, which stepped in to take care of Caitlyn’s wellbeing after she was discovered.
Six months later, although her scars from mistreatment are still evident, free from abuse Caitlyn has blossomed into a happy and energetic dog.
The city of Charleston honoured her with A Dog’s Best Day in which she was treated to a Bone to the City of Charleston as well as a playdate with her favourite firefighter, the ultimate game of fetch and more wonderful activities.
Caitlyn’s story is amazing because it’s one that shows the power of forgiveness, the strength of human compassion and the glory of survival.
Be inspired by this beautiful pup and watch as she enjoys her best day, yet.
